Months following its initial unveiling at WWDC this season, iOS 11 is finally (almost) ready for public consumption. Come Sept 19, you'll be able to install Apple's latest software update - should you choose to, anyway. The brand new iOS will ship with the newly announced iPhone 8 and 8 Plus when they arrive in stores on Sept 19, which is also probably when the upgrade will roll out to the general public. Those folks with aging iPhones (and iPads) will likely need to clear out old files and programs to make room for the update. However when you are doing eventually get iOS 11, you'll enjoy cool new tricks like Live Photo modes, a more-intelligent Siri and a customizable Control Center.
iOS's Control Center also looks nothing beats it used to - what once was a simple panel of options has evolved into a cluster of customizable controls that provide toggles for new features like the real Tone display and don't Disturb for Driving. That latter toggle will come in especially handy; theoretically, the feature does a good job of blocking notifications from rolling in when you're in a moving car, but there's no way for the phone to tell if you're the driver or maybe cruising along as a passenger. Control Center's new look hasn't rubbed everyone the correct way, especially since it's still easy to accidentally fiddle with screen brightness or device volume when you're looking to close the panel itself. Fortunately, it generally does not take that long to get used to.
Generally the iPhone X's phase detection autofocus system is very accurate, delivering consistently sharp images when shooting static scenes in every lighting conditions. When shooting moving scenes, the iPhone X will get you sharp images as well. However, in some instances (approximately 40%), the focus lag can measure to 600ms, and therefore you may just skip the decisive moment by way of a whisker. Those occasional slight delays aside, the focus hit rate was excellent, which means you can be confident of snapping constantly in-focus shots in every lighting conditions.
