Link cutting first began in 2002 with the TinyURL service. The reason was that people began to use mobile apps or access the Internet from their smartphones. The smart service Firebase Dynamic Links (FDL) replaced goo.gl. You use it automatically when you share or copy a link to a YouTube video, for example.
